Desvgn’s ArtHop Exhibition

Every day students and professionals from multiple disciplines and diverse backgrounds create art and design in the San Joaquin Valley. Desvgn offers people a unique opportunity to be a part of the vibrant design community in the Valley. Desvgn seeks to cultivate art and design by promoting local student portfolios and professional projects, and by creating discourse through lectures and installation projects of our own. On Thursday, September 7th, Desvgn put together an experimental architecture design exhibition for ArtHop at Tioga Sequoia Brewing Company Beer Garden. The Fresno Arts Council’s ArtHop is an art and culture-focused event fueled by the passion and growing interest in the arts in Fresno, CA.

Desvgn’s ArtHop exhibition utilized augmented reality and 3D scanning technologies to generate new conceptual architectural forms. Participants in the show were 3D scanned into a computer and then, their digital models underwent a series of design manipulations through 2-dimensional representation, 3-dimensional massing, and a recontextualization as a building in the urban environment of Fresno.

The hope of the project was to explore the compositional reach of 3D scanning as a specific modeling technique. Desvgn’s ArtHop exhibition addressed problems of Architectural Composition, Representation, and Materialization. The ArtHop show culminated with an exhibition where Desvgn presented our work and summarized our design research findings to art lovers and enthusiasts from all walks of life who visited the event.

Desvgn hopes to continue promoting, preserving and provoking the design community in the San Joaquin Valley. We wish to inspire lasting questions worth pursuing in order to broaden and deepen our human experience. You can see more of Desvgn at Desvgn.com.
