Toward a Monstrous Architecture - David Hupp

The discipline of architecture struggles to deviate from history and achieve real otherness, and only advances through extremely rare instances of what Mark Wigley refers to as “positive mutations”. Architecture, as a discipline, requires a productive mutation so severe that we risk completely losing what we originally had, flirting with the boundary of killing our learned ideologies in order to produce something not only alien but also superior and more valuable than what we had before.

Breaking from the confines of history requires architecture, as the existing host, to be compromised, corrupted, contaminated with disease of its own genetic coding. In order to achieve an architecture of true emergence, we need a new set of design principles.
